Re: Cat can't walk after worm shot
We took our cats to Petco yesterday to get shots for tape worms. They used a drug called Droncit. We took them one at a time because we only have one decent cat carrier. We took Charlie second. When we returned to our house to pick the third and last cat up, we let Charlie walk out of the cage. Well, his legs were useless. I went into the bedroom where he had jumped (I don't know how) on to the bed and stood him up and his back legs would just collapse. We called the vet at Petco and he told me to bring him back. We did and he checked him out. He seemed fine except for the fact that he couldn't use his back legs. We stayed for awhile and he told us that it must have been some kind of reaction and that he had never seen it happen before and he had been doing this for over 30 years. I asked him if he could have given him a vaccine instead and he said "no". I asked him that because he said that he had seen reactions to vaccines before but not worm shots. We asked if he could have hit a nerve or something and he said that the needle was too short for that too happen. He called us a few hours later to check on Charlie. Charlie was doing better but was still tripping over his own feet. He thought he would be fine today. Well, he is still not right. I have seen him run like he's normal but when he walks he loses his balance sometimes. I am very worried about him. We are going to take him to the vet asap. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this or had a similar experience? Please post if you have. Thanks!
