Since you formally resigned your principal had every right to hire someone else in your place and, honestly, I don't think it would be fair for you to get your job back after someone else has been hired. With that being said, if the parent goes to the principal then maybe she would be more willing to hire you on for another position at a later date. It sounds like you are a wonderful assistant and that you made some strong connections.
