Unfortunately because of a dog getting out of its crate during a trans-Atlantic flight and doing some damage to important wiring, certain breeds are now forbidden!
Sorry to say that AA has taken their list from the CDC and the American Insurance Institute and it includes my breed, rottweilers. On the hit list are pitbulls, dobermans and german shepherds to name a few.
If you would like to straighten their thinking out, please go to their website and click on Customer Service, then click on Contact AA and tell them that the restriction shouldn't be according to the breed (because they do fly zoo animals as well) but should be on the sturdiness and construction of the travel crate. The new airline crates do not offer enough protection to the plane or to the dog. Many dogs have escaped only to be killed on the tarmac by taxiing planes. How sad is that? They have evolved over years to a plastic affair with a door that is easily opened from within and without. Please contact them with your alternate opinion
