We lost my twelve year old Zachary two months ago. He was my best friend, as I'm sure many of you feel that way about yours. My home felt empty with only one dog remaining, her name is Maddie & she's my precious little girl. Spends more time on her back getting a tummy rub than standing up! So my husband & I bought a beautiful golden/lab retriever mix a week & a half ago. On a Sunday. We named her Sherri. She was so smart! Going to the door to tinkle when she was just nine weeks old! Maddie & Sherri played constantly, bringing toys to the Sherri & playing tug of war. By Friday, Sherri was having some diarreha, got very sick Friday night & we lost her Saturday. Parvo. I've never delt with Parvo before & it will haunt me for a long time. Took my beautiful fat tummy baby & turned her into skin & bones. It happened so quickly. When we made the decision, she actually gave me a lick almost to say goodbye. I still cry. I told her she would see Zachary & he'd take care of her. That night, I prayed that somehow I would know that Sherri was okay. Sunday morning, I found a bottle of aspirin in a cabinet I didn't know I had & stuck to the bottle was one of Zachary's hairs. I knew she was with him. I really miss her & Zachary. And so does Maddie. Thanks for listening.

I am very sorry to here about your loss. I lost my cat of 15 years in Sept. Last year she died at home I was with her when she left. Shortly after she was gone I could here her puring then it stopped when I said good-bye I heard her again. I know that sounds wierd but I think that when you have a special bond with your animals anything is possible. Again I am sorry for your loss. Just imagine the two of them up there romping around and having a ball. Roni |

So many of our furkids are taken by Parvo! I hate even the sound of the word. I am so sorry for your little girl. The first thing I do as a breeder is to vaccinate earliest possible for Parvo and I do so every two weeks. I am so afraid of this killer. I also visit my puppies who are living in their new homes and give them their shots every year just to make sure. Of course, some people do all that at the vet, but at least I know they are protected from this awful disease. They say the disease can be carried by other dogs and stays in the carpeting, grass, etc. for so long that it is hard to eliminate it once you have had it in your home. However, there are products that will kill the virus, I believe that Lysol spray is one of them. We know that you love them the minute you see them, so how long they are with you really doesn't make that much difference. "I could here her puring then it stopped when I said good-bye I heard her again. I know that sounds wierd but I think that when you have a special bond with your animals anything is possible." Wow, I had a similar circumstance with two of my rotties when they died. Dude was the first and I still often see him walking in the house and one night shortly after he died, as I lie in bed watching tv I could feel him lie against the foot of the bed as he often did and hear him breathing. It was very comforting to me. Then when Kai died, he was a kennel dog, and I could hear his barking for a few days after he died. I can't explain either of these things, but they did not rattle me, but were oddly comforting. Thank you all so very much for sharing your stories with me...I really believe that Zachary let me know that Sunday that Sherri was with him. Zak had such a strong personality, I will always miss him here with me. I got a few pictures of Sherri back this past weekend and she was so precious. I'm glad I've got them. That little angel came & spent just a short time with us but has left a life long impression & memories. Someday, I'll see her again along with all my other guys. This past Monday, I also lost my canary of seven years. I told him "if you can hear me Tigger, dive bomb Zak!" Thank you everyone.. |

I am really sorry for you loss. I lost a dog recently too and so I know how you feel. I also lost two cats right before that, so I know how hard it is to have them die so close together. For me there always comes a point where, after all the tears, I realize that they will always be alive, inside me somehow, as long as I have the great memories of them. take care, Kalaidra |
