Default Re: Advice in Changing Filter Brands

I have a well-established 50 gallon tank. I've been using a Fluval 304 filter, and I'm not at all satisfied with its performance. No matter what I do, the water flow rate is poor. Thinking I might have had a bad unit, I returned it and got another one. Same thing. I've checked all the hoses, and there's no obstruction, I've made sure all the air is out of the cannister, etc.

I think I want to change filters, probably to an Eheim 2026, but I know the media in the filters is different. How can I change to a new filter without eliminating the beneficial bacteria that exist in the old filter? Thanks.

I would run both filters for a week or 2.
