Default Re: Advice on tank setup

Okay you experts. I'm in need of some advice. I'm going to get a larger tank for my Electric yellows and Cobalt blues. I want to simulate the habitat for the fish as closely possible.
The following are my questions for you all.
1. I would like to add one more compatible species. Any suggestions?
2. What should I lay down on the bottom? Sand, crushed coral, gravel, pebbles, rocks? Fine, course, color?
3. What kind of cover? Large rocks, coral rocks, clay pots?
4. Are they bottom dwellers, shore dwellers or in between?
5. should I add plastic plants?
Any suggestions on how to set up the tank would help a lot.
Thanks- Aloha

First how big is the tank? next i personally would lay down small store bought pebbles than i would get a couple of rocks and make a couple of caves be creative think if that was you in that tank where you would want to hide also plants play and important part they grab food for some fish to eat after and they also provide a good source of cover for babys.add more rocks than plants

Welcome to the forum, FlameHog (love your nick). The answer to your questions is yes! All the above works...The best thing to do is read, and then read some more on the fish you want to keep. Use the Net, this forum and a bookstore and/or local library to study the fish you want to keep.

During this time is is a great time to cycle the tank you'll be putting them into. It's really wide open for you when you get into Africans, and the Rift Lakes fish are so varied and adaptable that you could have several different types of tanks covering different fish from the same lake that have differing conditions and achitecture.

Hence, the attraction to us hobbyists.
