Both 29 & 20 gallon tanks white-cloudy with algae bloom just days away. Tried so far: upgrade to more powerfull filters, phosphate pillows of 2 kinds; water water water; algae destroy and almost every 'clear water drops' around! One tank gets sun and the other not, the problems are the same. No over feeding, lots of gravel vacuuming, filtered or distilled water, would like the chrystl clear effect! |

29 gal (gets some sun) has been running 18 months; 20 has been running 5 months. 29 gal has 2 clown loaches 4 in, 1 bala shark 4 in, 2 dwarf garami; 20 gal has 1 eel, 2 irridescent sharks, 3 painteds. |

I seem to be having the same problem you are with my 140 gal tank. Did you ever figure out what was causing the cloudy water. Wayne |

ALGAE OR BACTERIA? I found best luck with "B-clear" it has a red cap but forget the name brand. It is made by the people who make "Cycle." It may take a combo of these and also a sludge remover. Add poly-fiber floss to filters for fine particle cleaning in layers. Only change the dirtiest layer. Don't change too much water too fast either! You'll just create "new tank syndrome" as the bacteria try to play catch-up with new water. Just siphon the top half of the gravel and let the bottom half develop a biobed. Other options: get a filter with a bio-wheel to hold organisms longer and more efficiently. I have a local pet shop that will give you a "seasoned" wheel if you buy the filter there to speed up the results. Distilled water can lack electrolytes and oxygen--be careful. If it is algae--add a lot of fast-growing live plants to compete with it. You may have to replace the plants until they win the war. Good Luck!
