hatched them in salt water. My question is how to clean them from the salt water in order to put them in the tank. Any ideas? I have tried the net but they keep on going through it. also i have two Cyphotilapia frontosa (http://members.fortunecity.com/aesde...cal/index.html) What is the way to sex them? Venting is not an otion in Cyprus. is there any other visial way to see find out at this age (please see page for pictures). The problem is that the one harases the other a lot. I do not know if the this common between male and female or if they are both the same sex as well. Please help |

Brine shrimp are photo-sensitive (I believe that is the proper term) they are attracted to light. You may want to put a source of light next to an area that is fairly "clean" and siphon them out after a while. It takes some time but they will all gather in that area. I use a brine shrimp hatchery that has a fresh water bottle at the top that is see through, the rest is black plastic and that is the area where the shrimps hatch in the salt water. The shrimp hatch and swim to the light at the top which is a fresh water bottle that can be safely dumped in your aquarium. ------------------ Joe Hackman Moderator - Freshwater Fish Forum My Tropical Fish Page |

It is actually very easy to sex Fronts! The male with have a MUCH larger hump/forehead then the female. Here is a URL showing a picture of a young male and a mature male along with some info on there behavior. http://www.cyberpathic.com/frontosa.htm ------------------ HAPPY FISHIN! Hi again, If you turn off the air to your shrimp eggs, you will find that most of the hatched fry will sink to the bottom. You can then siphon them out with an airline into a hanky or some other cloth that is sitting over a jar. The cloth will collect all the shrimp and the water can be returned to the hatchery. As for sexing the fronts, why can't they be vent sexed in Cyprus? You can vent sex quite easily by turning the fish upside down. The male will have two small holes set further apart than the female, who will have one small hole and a slightly larger one (at head end) for laying eggs. At about 4" (sometimes smaller) you will notice the males will already have a larger hump than females who tend to have more of a slope rather than a bulge. Also try this site: http://www.aquaworks.net/frontosa/ it's pretty good Hope this helps Anita [This message has been edited by jak (edited August 31, 2001).] |
