I am going to reply a post to myself because Hlle is a disease that all african cichlid en thusiasts need to be paying attention to. All cichlids carry HLLE or "hole in the head" what is not known is that is has mutated to include european forms which are not affected by the classic metrodiazonale treatment. It reacts like Ich-Temperature control and antibiotics.I have recently tried lowering temps to below 68F. Not so happy cichlids, but after 3 days I had a reduction on parasitic skin lesions due to Heximita! |

Kafrican, From what source did you get your info? I'd like to read it if possible. ------------------ Twila Moderator, Freshwater & Goldfish Forums ><[["> |

I got it from The A to Z handbook On Aquarium diseases. Nothing else pointed me in a good diretion. As for the lowering of the temp- that is just me experimenting. I have seen a reduction in external lesions due to lowering the temp. The fish continue to eat heartilly.

Update on the HLLE-I have used a regimen now of higher temps and CLOUT for longer than the recommended time. I am seeing a reduction in external lesions as well as a reduction or healing of the "holes" in my larger fish. Scarring is imminent, but is improving I have been double-dosing with Clout as well as feeding Metro(*MEDICATED FOOD) For a week now and the results are promising. What must be noted is the increase in temperature.
