I have a porcupine pufferfish that I've had for over a year now. I have always fed him frozen krill...he loves it. Yesterday when I went to feed him (he always lets me know when he's hungry) he dove after the krill like he always does, but "couldn't" eat them. It is almost like he's nose-butting them or cannot open his mouth to eat them. I have no idea what is wrong with him but he did it again today. I know he's hungry, but he cannot seem to get the food in his mouth. Please help me quick! |

This type of lock-jaw is usually dietary in nature. Feeding frozen krill as the main part of the diet may be linked to this problem, as krill is low in vitamin A. If this is the only food the fish will eat, you'll need to soak it first in liquid vitamins in order to give this fish proper nutrition. If the fish is unable to eat on its own, you may end up having to force-feed some vitamin enriched krill on a daily basis. Frank M.
