It first started as a white mark on his lip. It has now broke out into a blister. Its red in color and looks bad. In people terms " One big bad cold sore". Is this normal or should I say common, I have seen a huge oscar with a very similiar mark on his lip and now I cannot remember where I seen it. Is there any cure. My water conditions are good. I am stuck on what to try, I have raised the temp and I have added salt to the tank. Thanks people for the help.... |

I have seen this mainly on older oscars. I don't know of a cure or treatment for this condition, but I don't believe it's fatal. If it begins to look like it's spreading, you might consider an antibiotic treatment with 2 ppm nitrofurazone (48 hour bath. remove carbon during treatment). Frank M. Frank, I appreciate the help. I did a really good clean and water change,I dosed with more salt than usual and now it has seemed to almost clear up in a matter of days. One thing I can say about oscars is they seem to have a really fast healing rate. I use to have a lot of decor in the tank and they always were always getting banged up. Thanks again for the help.
