Not sure about the water softner?

But the water can contain many things that can be harmful.

You can have it tested not only for your tanks healh but also for your own.
Some local cities will test your water for free.

Use an inexpensive water purifier like one from Aqua Pharm about $35.

Amie, I have used well-water with resounding results, for most of my time as an aquarist. Water-softner salt doesn't effect the pH, it helps remove heavy metals and minerals from the water. Have a sample checked at your local LFS for normal tap pH, and other levels to make sure there isnt' anything you need to concern yourself about ...

Me? Mine was great and the bonus is you can do water changes without treated the water for most FW fish! it is truly a blessing to have well water!!!

I have a photographic memory - I just haven't had it developed yet

actually well water is better than fresh water but i agree you should either test it yourself or have it tested. Water plant but alot of chem. in water to make it safe to drink which alot of time is hard on your fish.

I agree. You should get your well water tested, both before (raw) and after (processed) the softner. What type of fishes are you keeping?
