Jim DeFord has by far the coolest background I've seen to date, it's glued rocks that cover the back of his entire tank. Hey Jim, post a pic of that bad boy! ------------------ Joe Hackman Moderator - Freshwater Fish Forum My Tropical Fish Page |

Got to agree with the rocks. If you don't have an uninhabited tank to do this with and you want to put a background in an existing tank, I like the cliffs and caves thingies(the 'green' ones look better than the 'red' ones.) and I put those plants that stick to the glass with suction cups in some of the holes in the cliffs. An airbar right below it looks good too. Just don't get one of the picture things that tape to the back of the aquarium. Those look so lame and cheesy no matter how much they overcharge you for them, they look fake and silly and they make the tank look dark and murky. ------------------ The best name for a plecostamus is Fred. |

I like the rock wall in the tank. If you have a glass tank you can get a bunch of flat rock from a landscape company and silicone the rocks to the back wall of the tank. Then I take fiberglass resin and pour it inbetween the rocks with the tank laying on its back. Before the resin dries I sprinkle sand on it. It gives a similar look to a stone fireplace. The resin keeps debris from getting behind the rocks. After about 24 hours I fill the tank let it sit a day or so then drain it. I do this a couple of times then the tank is good to go.
