Default The basic diet Seed or Pellet ?

From my research and experience I prefer to feed a combination of a quality parrot mix and pellet diet. The pellet can provide so much of the nutrition they require but that wonderful combination of seeds can not only make them happy but provide the essential oils that provide a glow to their feathers that I have noticed may be lacking in birds on pellet diets only.

Would like to hear from our members as to their experiences with these diets and their birds preferences and favorite foods.

Hi Cathy,

I have a Congo African Grey and have always fed her a combination of pellets, seeds, fruits and vegetables. I believe that seeds in moderation are great for Isabelle. She loves them and is very healthy and happy.

If I ate apples and nothing else, I wouldn't be healthy even though apples are a great source of vitamins. Variety is the 'spice of life'!

You're absolutely right, a good and varied diet is essential to insure your bird remains healthy. As much as they may like them, a diet limited to just pellets can also become very boring for the bird.
