My Sun Conure is 4 months old. How long does it take for them to learn how to talk or learn a tun... I play a CD that has a lot of different things on it everyday.. I mainly do one song or word a day... But She has not court on yet... Does it matter that it is a girl or they learn in the same amount of time?

Start small with there name. Be patient. It is normal for Birds to not start talking untill the are a year old. My conure says his name, nite, nite and gives kisses. He is seven months old and I fell this is a great accomplishment at his young age and am very proud of him. Please be patient with your young bird. In time you will be a very proud parent.

Sun Conures are known to be intelligent and vocal.Four months old is very young but also the first year of their life is the best time to help them develop their mimmicking abilities. You are correct to concentrate on repeating only one or two specific words. As time passes and she bonds closer and closer to you she will become more proficient at repeating the words you wish for her to learn.

One thing you may try is associating a word with something you do. Saying "pretty bird" enough while you pet your conure will eventually cause the bird to associate that word with what you are doing, so that when it wants to be petted, it will say "pretty bird". Worked with my 3 year old sun conure.

My sun conure ("Sunny"...I know, very original!) says "hello". She also mumbles something that I can't quite make out whenever she sees my wife (the bird absolutely hates my wife!). She also tends to sceram a lot when she feels she's not be paid enough attention to! All in all, a very delightful bird!
