My parents are away and I'm babysitting the lovebirds. The female was sitting on eggs but Mom didn't think they were going to hatch...BUT ONE DID!!! Do I have to give the mom anything special? Do I just feed her all the normal stuff? Should I block the cage to make it more private? There are three other eggs and the mom is meaner than mean. I am not a bird person and have no clue what I'm doing. |

What kind of lovebirds are they.Is this their first clutch hatching? New parents do need privacy. Provide as much as possible. Try to minimize stress and distractions. Make sure they have plenty of clean fresh water, millet spray, extra feed, freshly grated carrots & apples and a good mineral block. Fresh dark greens sprinkled with a powdered vitamin are a good addition. Unless you are willing to hand feed the babies yourself the rest is up to them. Best of luck. They are peach faced lovebirds and this is their first clutch together. I don't know if the mom raised chicks before Mom got her last year or not. I've blocked off the cage with chairs and blankets and baby #2 crawled out of it's egg today. Two eggs left. I'll look around for some vitamins and I know Mom has the other stuff. Thanks for the help. |
