I was wondering if anyone had rescued a Katrina dog? A family in NJ did, and the original owner was found. They did not want to give the dog up, but a court in Somerset NJ said they had to: http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-2/1138344930148680.xml&coll=1 This was an exceptional case and I feel for both the original and new owners.

Heartworm is transferred by mosquitoes. If a mosquitoe bites a Heartworm Postive animal, then bites a healthy animal, the Heartworm disease can be transferred this way. Even though Los Angeles does not have very many mosquitoes, I am still treating all of my own pets with heartworm preventative medication, because many of the Katrina animals are now living out here.
